Tsitsikamma Falls Adventures "Waterfall ZIpline Tour"

GENERAL

 

Tsitsikamma Falls Adventures is situated a mere 10km east of the Stormsriver bridge on the Garden Route and 150km west of Port Elizabeth in the heart of the Tsitsikamma (The adventure activity capital of South Africa).

 

Zip Lines are also known as a Canopy Tours (Costa Rica), Flying Fox (New Zealand and Australia), Zip Wire, aerial runway, aerial rope slide, death slide or Tyrolean crossing. In South Africa it is called "Foofi" or "Foefie" slide. This activity had its origin in Costa Rica, and was originally design to give scientist access to upper regions of forests to do Canopy research.

 

 

 

What makes the Tsitsikamma “Waterfall Zipline Tour” unique is that you have the opportunity to safely slide on a zip line across 3 beautiful waterfalls surrounded by indigenous trees and plants. This eco-adventure is sure to give you an adrenaline rush, zigzagging across the Kruis River with the wind in your face and the whistle of the pulley on the cable. You will hear the rush of the waterfalls all along the Zipline Tour.

Our tours depart every 30 min and groups sizes can be up to 12 people. (Larger groups can be accommodated as per prior arrangement.) We operate in most weather conditions (even when raining) and tours will only be seized if there is lightning or if it is deemed that it would be unsafe and endanger the safety of our clients.  

If for some reason you are unable to enjoy our it’s amazing, it’s awesome, it’s spectacular “Waterfall Zipline Tour” you are more than welcome to take a walk along the footpaths, decks and suspension bridge overlooking the beauty of the waterfalls and nature be part of the adventure while your friends or family takes part in the  tour. Viewing the waterfalls and walking along the river is free of charge and permission can be obtained at the reception. Please adhere to the signs and instructions along the route and note that you do this at your own risk.

COST

The Tsitsikamma "Waterfall Zipline Tour" Cost ZAR 350 per person. Note that we do take most major credit cards like VISA and Mastercard.

WHAT TO EXPECT DURING THE TOUR

The “Waterfall Zipline Tour” consists of 8 slides totaling 822m (2697 feet) of which the longest is 211m (692 feet). Upon your arrival you must report at the reception to pay where after you will receive a ticket and report at the kitting room. You’ll be given an indemnity form to sign and our guides will get you geared up in a harness for an amazing experience.

Once kitted you will be introduced and accompanied by two professional guides to the starting point of the tour. There you will be given a safety briefing and the guides will explain the do’s and don’ts during the tour. They will explain to you how our patented braking system works. The first two slides is relatively slow just to get you used the experience.

On the fifth slide you will cross over the first waterfall and you’ll land on a platform above the crest of the second waterfall. On the sixth slide of 165 meters you’ll cross over two more stunning waterfall passing the cliff’s only an arms length away. From there you’ll walk up a pathway approximately 150 meters where you will receive a refreshing drink. From the deck you can enjoy the beauty of one the Garden Routes hidden gems with a breathtaking view overlooking the waterfalls. If you choose you can take a short walk to the suspension bridge where the abseiling takes place and get a stunning view from above the second waterfall.

After enjoying your refreshment you’ll take a walk approximately 100 meters to the start of our longest and highest slide. This slide is 211m (692 feet) long and at times 50 meters (20 stories) above the ground. The eighth and last slide will bring you back across the river and you will return to the kitting rooms and you’ll be offered complimentary refreshment.

WHAT TO WEAR

-          Long or short pants.

-          Comfortable flat sole shoes preferably closed.

-          Elastic band to tie up long hair, since we don’t want it getting entangled in the pulley.

-          If it is raining you’ll be given a rain suit to wear at no extra charge.

-          Sunglasses should preferably have a neck strap.

-          Please don’t forget the camera (We also have an onsite company that takes photos and videos at a very reasonable rates. Please request this before departing on your tour.)

RESTRICTIONS

-          Any person under the age of  18 years of age must have a guardian/parent to sign an indemnity form when partaking in any of the adventure activities on the property presented by Tsitsikamma Falls Adventure Park.

-          Pregnant ladies.

-          Persons with spinal and neck problems.

-          Children under the age of 3 years. Children under 7 years must be accompanied by an adult and we can accomodate 1 child with a guide per group.

-          Must be reasonably fit. (Must be able to walk unassisted for at least 500m)

-          Persons that weigh more than 120Kg or that the harness does not fit comfortably.

-          Persons with severe Acrophobia (Fear of Heights). We have had many wonderful cases of people overcoming their fear of heights, due to the patience and professionalism of our guides.

SAFETY

We pride ourselves on our safety due to the quality of our installations, the equipment that we use and our professional guides. Furthermore there are strict criteria set by the Insurance Companies which we have to abide by.  We are also one of only companies in the world to have our own patented zip line braking systems. “Foefie Brake©” & “Foefie Stop©”. Some companies use gloves to brake, which may lead to injuries such as dislocated or injured shoulders and fingers getting caught between the pulley and the wire rope.  Note that under no circumstances patrons are allowed to handle any equipment.

HOW LONG DOES THE TOUR TAKE?

The average group size of 8 people takes about 1hour to 1hour 30 min. Note that this might vary due to factors such as:

-          When accommodating very large groups 30+.

-          The amount of children in the group.

-          The amount of parents and children sliding in Tandem.

-          Persons in the group with a fear of heights.

-          The fitness levels of the group (since there is walking involved).

-          When raining it takes time to dry the rain suits.

TOUR SCHEDULES

 We are open every day of the year first tours leaves at 08h30 and last group leaves 15h30 during off peak season. During peak season first groups leave at 08h00 and last groups leave at 16h00. Signing of indemnity forms and kitting up takes approximately 30 min. For large groups it is preferable to book in advance to avoid disappointment. We also request your patience if your group should leave later than expected, since we want to ensure every persons safety and to enjoy the activities.
